Microsoft Devices continues support for Text2Teach

At the recent 10th anniversary celebration of Text2Teach, Microsoft Devices re-established its support for education with an upgrade of the Microsoft Education Delivery (MED) technology that will continue to inspire teachers and improve the students’ quality of learning.

MED, conceptualized in 2003, is a mobile software that enables the delivery of educational videos to remote, hard-to-reach areas with data stored in Lumia and other Windows Phone devices. Teachers and trainers can access and download over 300 tailored content for Grade 5 and 6 Math, Science, English and Values Education from a constantly updated catalog over a mobile network.

These are used as teaching aids for classroom viewing via a television screen or a video projector. After signing an agreement together with the Ayala Foundation, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Education (DepEd), Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), Globe Telecom that will mainstream Text2Teach, implementing it in 38,000 public schools nationwide, Sanna Eskelinen, Global Lead for Social Investment at Microsoft Devices shared that “local partners are important because it is instrumental in the success of the education program. Aside from allowing you to customize content, they also help in the implementation especially when faced with local issues such as electricity or natural calamity.”

MED has evolved since its inception 10 years ago. Now approaching Phase 5, the system now enjoys the additional convenience of projecting the Lumia 630 Dual Sim’s screen to the TV via WiFi. Equipped with Windows Phone 8.1OS that brings the ability to project a handset’s screen on to a larger screen wirelessly, Lumia allows teachers to show downloaded videos effortlessly without the trouble of connecting wires.

Part of the upgrade is also an updated MED that will allow teachers to easily browse, comment and ask questions on content provided by the DepEd and download files and videos through an intuitive and user-friendly interface. The encouragement of interactivity among teachers allows better feedback, ensuring that teaching materials are constantly improved and crafted to better suit the needs of classrooms. Eskelinen says, “this mechanism will allow partner developers to continuously improve the technology and content to better suit its target teachers and students.”

Text2Teach is the Filipino name given to the global program called BridgeIT conceptualized by Nokia, Pearson, the International Youth Foundation and the United Nations Development Program and is the longest-running out of the 12 countries that have implemented it since 2004 including other developing countries such as Indonesia and Bangladesh.

Reaching over 700,000 students and 16,000 teachers throughout 2,500 schools in the Philippines, Text2Teach has received global recognition, being dubbed “one of the 100 most inspiring social tech innovations” by Nominet Trust. It was also identified as one of the ten “Exemplary Information Communications Technology Innovations for Education” at the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Forum on ICT in Education, last 2013. The use of the MED technology has shown improvement in student’s performance and National Achievement Test scores, fostering positive attitudes towards learning and using technology for teaching and the improvement of classroom environments.

“The rapid advancement of technology is something that we need to take advantage of, especially for education programs, where the need for constant improvement, renewal and updating is essential, ” said Eskelinen.

Gilas Pilipinas Jersey by nike for Fiba world cup 2014

JUNE 26, 2014, Manila – Nike unveiled the Philippines National Basketball Team uniform for the 2014/2015 season today with members of the Gilas Pilipinas team and Coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes before media, the Basketball Federation of the Philippines, and associates of Nike and the federation. The team will debut the uniform on-court at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain in August this year.

The new uniforms made of Nike Sphere fabric are more lightweight, breathable, and durable. Sphere flocks the interior for sweat management; articulated armholes provide a better and easier range of motion; and laser cut perforations provide ventilation throughout the kit.

“The new uniforms are lighter in weight, which is an advantage for us when we play. Together with the heat management, the uniforms will keep us comfortable through the games,” said LA Tenorio, point guard for the Gilas.

The new uniform is as bold and daring as the players are when they take to the court. Aside from “Pilipinas” emblazoned in thick, vibrant letters on the front, the latest uniforms portray an aerographic design on the back that shows an image of the eight-rayed golden sun found on the Philippine flag.

“We will wear this uniform proudly,” said Marc Pingris, forward for the Gilas. “With the sun on the backs of all players, it’s a gentle reminder to each player of its symbolic meaning of unity and sovereignty for our country.”

The graphic element from the Philippine flag was included to provide an inspirational and motivational point for the team who are going to battle it out against the best basketball teams in the world in Spain, a country that the Philippines has had a long history with. Coincidentally, the eight rays around the sun represent the first eight provinces that started the Philippine revolution in 1896, which was against the Spaniards. There could be no greater coat-of-arms than this eight-rayed sun for this year’s World Cup as it symbolizes the rich and proud history of the Philippines and Spain.

“Basketball is more than a sport for Filipinos. It is in our blood, our DNA, woven into the Filipino culture. The new uniforms will be worn with pride, on the world stage in Spain as we show the world what Filipino basketball is all about and bring pride to the Philippines” said Coach Chot.

Tonal shades of bold red and blue are the final touches tailored to bring spirit and vigor to the uniforms, as the Gilas Pilipinas continue to work their way to the top of the basketball world.

My ToyCon Experience

Last June 20 to 22 at Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall in mandaluyong, toy enthusiast, toy collector’s and cosplayer’s gather in another big event in his 13th year. The 13th philippine Toy Convention.   toycon-2014   I came in this event on Day 2 at 11 am, but the crowd is starting to become big, as the collectors, exhibitor’s and vendor’s are excited on the second day. Also this year we celebrate the 75 anniversary of batman. i really didn’t know that batman is 75 years old now. Image So a lot of toy collection of batman are display here in this 3 day event. This are the example of Batman Action Figure that are display to public. As they promote for their upcoming 2 movies of  rurouni kenshin this 3rd quarter of 2014. Image

      On Day two, Ryza Cenon heats up the night for UNO Magazine autograph signing featuring her on the cover photo of swimsuit collection.

    An special gift from the beautiful ms.ryza cenon of UNO, an magazine with an autograph specially for me. On the other side of megatade hall the booth of Alodia with an meet and greet experience for their fans. Her booth was surrounded by fans and event marshal’s to secure that everyone will be ok. Unfortunately i only got this one clear photo of alodia because of to many people around her booth to see the cosplay goddess.

 On the Day 3 of ToyCon a lot of Toy store are lower their price and some of the limited edition items are displayed to sale. One of the store that having a huge number collectibles items on Jae Collection store.

      The limited edition avenger’s action figure set of 4 at the price of 65,000php that’s a huge a lot of money at that price you can buy and own a brand new motorcycle.

     On the other store, this bigboys collection store, is also having a number of items to choose. They started collecting as a hobby but now, they are selling collectibles items too.

We are also have our own collectible toys, with this limited edition eraserheads figures. it was really amazing that not just superheroes and other action figures can be find here, but also our famous local bands. you can buy eraserheads collectibles at the price of 2,500 for the set of 4.

      There are also a booth where you can find filipino comic artist, these are group of 5 from a university join together for this event. They can draw on the spot, or they can make a customized superhero with you face on it.Image

    Also at Day 3 another exciting event is much awaited from UNO Magazine, The autograph signing of gorgeous Roxee B. for her UNO Magazine cover for the month of June-July 2014.

This is my toycon experience, i really enjoy this event. I love toy’s and i recall my childhood when i was so addicted to toys. It was a really awesome and memorable weekend. Hoping to see you again next year. More power to ToyCon philippines.

FILA Meet and Greet at glorietta and SM MoA

Last June 22, Fila together with the Philippine Volcanoes, Ms. Tessa Prieto Valdez and Fabio Ide visit Fila Glorietta and SM Mall Of Asia for a meet and greet, autograph signing  weekend for the Fila and ambassador fans.

A jam packed afternoon for Fila Glorietta in Makati city, Fila store is full of  FILA lover’s and fans from inside and out FILA store.

Fans fall in line to see have an autograph from their idol’s. Fila expect to have a lot of fans to come but not that huge as the line almost near mall entrance (near landmark).

Volcanoes are game on picture taking from their fans. They are happy that their fans not just supporting them when playing but also on their meet and greet  fans day.
